Last week was CRAZY, to say the least.
First, Court made me finally go to the doctor because I've had a lot of nausea and vomiting for the last month. The Dr. put me on a liquid diet and then scheduled me for an Upper G.I. The hospital called on Friday to give me my "estimated cost", which they said I would have to pay at the time of the procedure (scheduled for 8am today)... $1086.00! Are you kidding? I called this morning and canceled...I don't have $1086 dollars! I haven't thrown up since yesterday morning...so we'll see how it goes. I'm feeling okay today, so hopefully the liquid diet is helping. The Dr. thinks I may have had some swelling in my gastric bypass pouch and the liquid diet is intended to give my body a break and allow it to heal and to reduce the swelling. So, I'm going to stay on it for a while and see if it helps.
The next day Meredith and I went for our morning walk. About 30 minutes in to it, she suddenly leaned forward and rolled out of her stroller and on to the street! I'm pretty sure I buckled her into her stroller...but somehow she came unbuckled. It had been a bit chilly that morning, so I had a blanket over her arms and legs. Court says she knows how to unbuckle her stroller, so I'm thinking she must have done so while the blanket was on her. I feel like such a horrible mother! The poor child got a little owie on her forhead. I tried to get a good picture of it, but she wouldn't sit still and didn't want me touching it. So this is the best picture I could come up with...
This is her head today, after about 5 days healing time. She still won't let me take a decent picture of it!
Later that day, Court and I were doing some work around the house and we each thought the other was watching Meredith. When we realized neither one of us knew where she was, we looked around and found her in our room. There was a laundry basket at the foot of our bed with a couple of bathrobes in it. She climbed in and made herself comfortable and went to sleep! I must admit those are some soft robes! I was going to put her in her bed, but she seemed comfy and cozy, so we let her have her nap in the laundry basket....is that bad?
On Thursday, Meredith and I met up with my friend Caniele at Chick-Fil-A...she and I were college roommates and hadn't seen each other in 10 years. Turns out she grew up here, and her dad is my doctor! She was in town visiting with her kids for a few days. At Chick-Fil-A, there were a couple of women who would come around every so often and ask if we needed refills. At first we thought it was nice, but after being asked 10 times in 3 minutes if we needed a refill, it started to get annoying. After a while, they started coming every two seconds and asking if they could clear our trays for us. Finally, we let them take them! It was annoying. Then we went into the play area and visited for an hour while the kids played. She had two boys who took to Meredith and helped her go down the slide and climb around in the play area. It was really cute. I found myself wishing Meredith had some big brothers...it was cool to see them watching out for her. When it was time to leave, I gathered up Meredith and all our stuff and headed for the car. After digging around for a minute, I realized I didn't have my car keys. I sat Meredith and my cup of lemonade on the hood of my car while I dug around her diaper bag and my purse looking for my keys. Bad idea...it only took 30 seconds for Meredith to grab the lemonade and turn it upside down...dumping it all over her and the car! Ugh! After emptying my bag twice, it was clear I didn't have my keys. I went back into the restaurant and looked all over. I said a little prayer, and immediately I knew that I had left them on my tray...and they had been thrown away! Ugh! I called Court to come and get Meredith so I could dig through the trash. While waiting for him to arrive, I talked to the woman who had taken our tray and she just shrugged and said, "Honey, that trash was taken out already." I said, "I know, but I can't drive my car with out my key. So we're going to have to look through the trash and find it." Then she asked me which trash can I had thrown it in ... I said "I don't know...you're the one who threw it away." She was irritated, and I found a manager and explained to him what had happened...including the fact that I had been pestered so much to have my tray cleared that in flustered irritation I let her take my tray before I was done eating and as a result didn't get my keys off of it. The general manager came out and I told him what happened...he was VERY nice. He got 5 of his employees together and put gloves on and they each went through a garbage can. He told me not to worry about it...it happens at least once a week. I thought, "Well if those old ladies would take a chill pill and let people eat and clear thier own places, this might not happen so often." When I explained that it had been over an hour because we had let the kids play in the play area for a while before trying to leave, I could tell that some of the employees were annoyed... "She didn't notice her keys were missing for over an hour?" I overheard one employee say. LOL. They ended up having to go out to the dumpster and search there. Court showed up and took Meredith from me about 5 minutes before they finally found my keys. The General Manager cleaned them for me with a clorox wipe. He was very nice and I was very appreciative of that. If he hadn't been working that day, I probably wouldn't have gotten my keys back. Ugh! While we were there, they gave Meredith a paper Chick-Fil-A hat...today, I found her playing in her toy box with it on her head...
Oh, and Meredith has decided that she likes to wear my socks on her feet. She has tried to wear my walking shoes, but they are too heavy for her to walk in. So, she found a pair of my socks and cried until I put them on her. Now, if she ever sees me walking in socks, she pulls them off my feet and wants them on her. Crazy kid. Fortunately, her interest in my socks started BEFORE the head injury...so I know she's not just loopy from hitting her head! LOL! Here she is wearing my socks:
Oh, and I should mention that Meredith has started walking this week! She's still pretty wobbly, but she can stand up on her own and take a few steps. She already prefers walking to crawling...of course, her favorite is to whip around the house on her little rider car. She can seriously get around on that thing!
